Author Lorraine Avila & Her New Workshop Enough Space In Our Worlds + The Bridge Collective In Texas

Friday is here ✨which means today we are featuring those working to amplify the sound of humanity through their very much needed and inspiring work.

Lorraine Avila is a fiction writer, educator, current MFA student, and a lover of dembow, plantains, and anything connected to magical realism, African jujuism, and Africanfuturism. She is particularly interested in what Black Caribbeans has done (and continues) to do with language.

From October 3-October 31, Lorraine will hold Enough Space in Our Worlds, a writing workshop where participants will compose a full short story and two flash fiction pieces. It will include discussions on craft, process, and voice, as Lorraine's mission is to break free from generational trauma by continuing to rupture the traditions of silence. Check out her socials/bio for signup information.

The Bridge Collective is an organization on a mission is to ensure that all Texans have equal access to abortion care. They fulfill this by providing information, transportation, accommodation, and abortion doula services, and by helping clients navigate resources in Texas. Their goal is to create a climate of reproductive autonomy and justice for all pregnant people. They believe that every person across the spectrum of pregnancy deserves access to support and options.
